SILENCE

AGM_05

SILENCE explores different aspects of the notion of silence. Silence not only to be seen as opposed to noise or as element to be used within sound experimental practice, rather as a tool in political and cultural practices. Silence is used and understood differently according to the ethic, national or religious customs. Silence can be beautiful and it can be frightening. The invited artists address the multilayered meaning of silence with different approach: silence and politics, silence and urbanity, silence and nature, physical and psychological silence.

The 2005 AGM is addressing the notion of SILENCE by being an event incorporated within the noisy experimental sound and video art festival SOUNDplay in TORONTO, Canada. SOUNDplay is a meeting point for experimentation in new media and sound art, produced by New Adventures in Sound Art, a non-profit organization that produces performances and installations in electroacoustic and experimental sound art. We would like to thank the whole SOUNDplay team, and particularly Darren and Nadene for their organizational effort, Laird for technical assistance and light design, Jamie for operational help and photo shooting, and also the teams of Prefix Gallery, Latvia House and CKLN radio for their precious support.
